After all of the disruption, restrictions and cancelled events of the past two years, isn’t it just brilliant we have a chance to celebrate the Queens Jubilee this week.
It will be a fantastic opportunity to see different communities and neighbourhoods coming together again. Whether it be a street party, the lighting of a jubilee beacon, open gardens or a simple afternoon tea, the jubilee will certainly have provided us with the chance to come together and celebrate as one.
I am sure you will all have your plans for the long bank holiday weekend and there is certainly lots going on across Barry and the Vale. There are beacon lighting ceremony’s across the Vale. We should hopefully also be able to see similarly large beacons across the Bristol channel to the North Devon and Somerset coastline. Nearly 50 road closures have been announced to accommodate street parties!
There is also a Jubilee festival of flowers in Llanmaes and many other smaller events all over our community. Many of you will want to stay tuned to the TV and watch the magnificent Trooping of the Colour on Thursday or the service in St Pauls Cathedral on Friday. Seeing the preparations and the Union Jack flags flying down the Mall last week has made me very excited.
It will be utterly magnificent to see London and the entire county in all its glory celebrating the Queens unbelievable achievement of 70 years on the throne. The service she has provided for this county has been utterly outstanding and we are indebted to her. I am sure the whole nation will be celebrating to the upmost of their efforts this weekend!
As a member of Her Majesty’s most honourable Privy Council, I have had the privilege of seeing the Queen at work first hand. It is humbling that one person has dedicated her life to serve our nation for seventy years.
Whatever you’ll be doing to celebrate I am sure you will have a fantastic time. This is our opportunity to say thank you.
