I wanted to provide an update to residents of St Athan. I have gained confirmation from the MoD that there are no plans for an immigration centre in the area as some local rumours suggest.
You will also be aware of individuals who supported UK troops in Afghanistan and that as a nation we committed to supporting their settlement here in the UK.
A small number of homes are being made available to families who have been relocated to the UK under the Afghans Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP). These are individuals and families who risked their lives and advised, fought and patrolled alongside and in support of our armed force in Afghanistan and to whom we owe a debt of gratitude.
I am sure the community will provide a warm welcome to them.
