Alun Cairns MP is fundraising for Barnardo's in his eleventh London Marathon, taking place on Sunday 23rd April.
The Vale MP is running for Barnardo's, who support and protect children and young people facing a wide range of issues, from drug misuse to disability, from sexual abuse to domestic violence. The charity was selected following a request from the local Barnardo's committee in Cowbridge and Alun was more than willing to step in.
So far, Alun has raised over £80,000 for local charities through running the London Marathon. He said that although the 26 miles don't get easier, knowing that all funds raised are going to support young people experiencing difficulties will keep him going on the day.
Alun Cairns MP commented:
It is a privilege to work and support Barnardo's. Young people face so many pressures locally and Barnardo's are always on hand to help in the most discrete way. This could be protecting a child from abuse or helping children who are carers.
I want to raise as much money as possible for this great charity. The Barnardo's team in the Vale of Glamorgan deserve a special mention. They do a lot of life-changing work across the area, and I pay tribute to the Cowbridge Helper Group for their continued activity in the community.
I appreciate that many calls are made in favour of worthwhile causes, if you are able to extend your generosity to help this charity it would mean a lot.
