Following a campaign by Alun Cairns, £20 million has been awarded to Barry by Rishi Sunak as part of the UK Government’s long-term plan for towns. The money will focus on projects to regenerate local high streets and town centres, improve transport and securing public safety.
Vale MP Alun Cairns has been working on this project for some time and is delighted that Barry will receive £20 million to help regenerate the town.
Alun Cairns wants to give local people within Barry the opportunity to have their say on where this long-term funding will be invested.
Commenting on the announcement Alun Cairns said:
“Barry is Wales’ largest town, yet it has been ignored and underfunded by the Welsh Labour Government for decades. I have long campaigned for investment to help with the regeneration of the area and am delighted that Barry has been selected as one of the 55 towns across the UK to benefit from the new fund.
“The £20 million will regenerate our town centre and local high streets as well as delivering on your other local priorities.
“This investment proves that Barry is a priority town to the UK Conservative Government.
“I am listening to residents’ views across Barry on how this fund should be spent and will use my survey to press for them. So take my survey and tell me what you would like the £20 million spent on.”
