I am a massive supporter of local transport services, and I understand how vital they are to people across the Vale. New routes, more reliable services, cheaper fares, and a range in available transport methods are all vital. Bringing Vale residents closer together and encourage more people to use local transport.
New Train Station for St Athan
- I have secured Department for Transport commitment and funding for the new St Athan railway station. Three years on from the packed public meeting I hosted on the matter, the local support has been overwhelming. I am determined to deliver it.
- I have raised the issue of a new station in Parliament, as well as in meetings with the Secretary of State for Transport, the Secretary of State for Wales, and departmental ministers.
- Following my advocacy of the village's suitability for a new railway station, the first feasibility study has been commissioned highlighting and reinforcing this. We will now have a wider business case study to prove demand.
Better Bus Services
- The Labour-ran Welsh Government have cut bus funding. I have held public meetings with residents across the Vale of Glamorgan to campaign against this.
- I launched a bus survey, asking residents' views on how local services can improve and how I can help.
Improving Local Stations
- Accessibility of local transport services must improve to bring better connectivity for more people.
- £3.5million upgrades to Barry Station, provided by the Department for Transport and Welsh Government through the 'Access for All' scheme. Improving accessibility, by upgrading the bridge and installing lifts and ramps. After 18 months of construction, with the opening of a new Barry Station footbridge, the upgrades have now been completed.
- Million-pound upgrades to Llantwit Major Station, provided by Department for Transport funding from their £20m Mid-Tier 'Access for All' scheme. Installing a new lift, making the station accessible for people with disabilities and mobility issues.
- £3 million upgrades to Cadoxton Station, provided by the Department for Transport and Welsh Government through the 'Access for All' scheme.
