I believe passionately in safeguarding our natural environment for future generations. To pass on green spaces to the next generation, protecting our precious environment from the risk of overdevelopment across the Vale of Glamorgan is therefore vitally important.
Protecting Green Spaces
- I will continue to work with the Vale Communities Unite team to stop Model Farm. Concreting over a working farm is hugely damaging and does not fit within our need to protect our environment.
- £1 million of funding for community-led projects, including focuses on green issues, through the UK Government's 'Community Renewal Fund'.
Improving Local Infrastructure
- Communities must be consulted ahead of any new developments to consider the pressure new housing brings to community services.
- Developers need to stick to promises about providing vital facilities including schools, roads, and amenities.
- More accessible electric vehicle charging is something that I have been pressing for. In April 2021, the Vale of Glamorgan only had 18 public charging points, this must improve. Therefore, I greatly welcomed the introduction of more chargers by the Local Authority.
Environmental Issues
- In 2020, I was elected as the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Energy Security, which is a cross-party group looking into the challenges facing the energy sector while engaging with key stakeholders on this basis.
- I have joined local volunteer litter picks across the Vale to help keep the area tidy. I am very proud of the fact that the Vale of Glamorgan has consistently been rated as one of the top three recycling local authorities across the whole of Wales. Our recycling rate of 70%, is 5% higher than the national average.
